What is a Portable Appliance?

An item of electrical equipment that is connected to the power supply by means of a plug and socket.

Why are you required to have your appliances tested?

• Under the Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974, Sections 2, 3 and 4, it is the responsibility of both employer and employee to ensure the safety of all persons using the workplace.
• The Provision and use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 state thatevery employer should ensure that all equipment is safe and suitable for use for the purpose required.
• The Electricity at Work Regulations 1999 state that all systems should be maintained to ensure operation of equipment is as safe as is reasonably practical.
